Navigate the ADHD Evaluation Process in Milton

ADHD Evaluation

New Patients

You must be a resident of Connecticut, Massachusetts or New Hampshire.

At Aspire ADHD, we provide comprehensive ADHD evaluations for eligible children, adolescents, and adults throughout Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire.

Our evaluations are designed to determine whether your symptoms are consistent with ADHD while also considering other medical, psychiatric, developmental, or learning conditions that may contribute to difficulties with attention, organization, impulsivity, or executive functioning.

Every evaluation is individualized and typically takes 90 minutes to 2 hours, depending on your clinical history and evaluation needs.

What Does an ADHD Evaluation Include?

 Your evaluation may include:

  • Comprehensive psychiatric and clinical interview
  • Review of your current symptoms and functional impairment
  • Medical, psychiatric, developmental, educational, family, and social history
  • Standardized ADHD rating scales and screening questionnaires
  • Parent, caregiver, spouse, or teacher questionnaires when appropriate
  • Review of prior medical, educational, or psychological records
  • Objective computerized ADHD testing (IVA-2), when clinically appropriate
  • Review and interpretation of computerized testing results
  • Vital signs and focused physical examination when indicated
  • Urine drug screening and/or electrocardiogram (EKG) when clinically indicated.

Additional laboratory testing or referrals to other specialists may be recommended when necessary to clarify your diagnosis or support safe treatment planning.

Following completion of your evaluation, your provider will review the findings with you, discuss diagnostic impressions, and provide personalized treatment recommendations.

What to Expect During Your ADHD Evaluation

Here's what to expect:

Step 1: Schedule Your Initial Evaluation

Schedule your initial appointment online or contact our office for assistance.

Before your appointment, you will receive electronic intake forms and questionnaires through our secure patient portal.

Please complete all required forms before your appointment to avoid delays in the evaluation process.

Step 2: Meet With Your Psychiatric Provider

During your initial appointment, your provider will complete a comprehensive clinical evaluation.

The evaluation includes a review of your current symptoms, medical and psychiatric history, developmental and educational history when relevant, daily functioning, and other conditions that may cause or contribute to attention difficulties.

For children and adolescents, information from parents, caregivers, and teachers may also be requested.

Step 3: Complete Computerized ADHD Testing

As part of the evaluation process, you will complete the IVA-2 Continuous Performance Test.

IVA-2 is a computerized assessment that objectively measures attention and response control.

Depending on your individual circumstances and eligibility, testing may be completed in the office or remotely from home.

The computerized assessment typically takes approximately 15–20 minutes.

Step 4: Your Provider Reviews Your Results

Your psychiatric provider will review and interpret the information collected during your evaluation.

This may include:

  • Your clinical interview and history
  • Standardized ADHD rating scales and screening questionnaires
  • IVA-2 computerized testing results
  • Parent, caregiver, or teacher questionnaires when applicable
  • Previous medical, psychiatric, educational, or psychological records when relevant

IVA-2 testing does not diagnose ADHD on its own. Your diagnosis is based on the complete clinical evaluation and all available information.

Step 5: Review Your Diagnosis & Recommendations

During your follow-up appointment, your provider will discuss your evaluation results with you.

You will receive an explanation of your diagnostic impressions and personalized recommendations for next steps.

Recommendations may include medication management, psychotherapy, behavioral strategies, lifestyle changes, academic or workplace accommodations, additional testing, or referral to another specialist when appropriate.

Step 6: Begin Treatment, When Appropriate

Patients who are diagnosed with ADHD or another psychiatric condition may have the option to continue care with Aspire ADHD for ongoing psychiatric treatment and medication management.

Treatment is individualized based on your diagnosis, symptoms, medical history, treatment goals, and clinical needs.

Receiving an ADHD diagnosis does not automatically mean medication is required or appropriate.

Ready to Get Started?

A comprehensive ADHD evaluation can provide greater clarity about your symptoms, challenges, and treatment needs. At Aspire ADHD, we combine a detailed clinical assessment with standardized rating scales and objective computerized testing when appropriate to provide a thorough, individualized evaluation.

Take the first step toward getting answers and finding the right treatment plan for you or your child.

We do NOT offer walk-ins or crisis services. If you have an emergency, DO NOT CALL THE OFFICE, CALL 911 INSTEAD. We recommend you visit an Emergency Room for any emergent or crisis situations, as they do not require an appointment and will take walk-ins and provide crisis services.

There are NO on-call providers or appointments at our offices after hours.

  • What are your fees?

Please confirm your insurance coverage with our office staff prior to scheduling an appointment. We do not provide free services. Telehealth appointments are still medical appointments and will be treated as such (including paying balances upon services rendered).

We offer assistance to individuals on a case-by-case basis. Payment plans, a sliding fee scale, and assistance with specialty medication discounts are available.

  • Will the cost of treatment be covered by my insurance plan?

We take a variety of insurances in MA and NH, as well as private pay (cash, debit, and all major credit cards). Your balance is due at your scheduled appointment (if the balance is not paid in full, the appointment will be rescheduled).

For more information, please call our office at 617-991-9151 or email us at info@aspiremedgroup.com

  • How long will my appointment last?

Initial psychiatric evaluation appointments are 45 minutes to 1 hour long.

Most follow-up sessions are 20-30 minutes, but they may be scheduled for longer to best serve the needs of the individual patient.

  • What will happen during my first appointment?

A review of your psychiatric history, presenting symptoms, current medications, and lifestyle will be discussed during the initial psychiatric evaluation. The provider will gather the required documentation to adequately assess, diagnose, and treat the patient.

The patient will be given treatment recommendations and discuss potential side effects, efficacy, and duration of treatment. The provider will develop a treatment plan that best suits the needs of the patient. The patient has the right to refuse treatment or inquire about alternative treatment options. If it is outside the scope of our practice or a higher level of care is warranted, we will provide referrals to a provider or facility that can better serve your needs.

  • How often do I have to follow up with my provider?

Most follow-ups occur between 1 week to 2 months. Rarely, 3-month appointments are scheduled for patients (usually only for established patients that have been stable on medication for a prolonged period of time).

The frequency of appointments varies depending on the complexity and case of the individual patient. Prescriptions are filled up until the next scheduled appointment. Patients are responsible for contacting the office if a refill is needed.

Please do not contact providers directly outside of office hours.

  • What is a PMHNP and what can they do for me?

A Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is a certified advanced practice nurse that specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of mental illness and psychological problems. Some providers also offer primary therapy services.

In this setting, the PMHNPs primary role would be to recommend, prescribe, and manage medications when appropriate and review the risks, benefits, and alternatives to medications. When appropriate, the PMHNP would order and review labs. PMHNPs primarily provide medication management and, occasionally, supportive therapy. Oftentimes, patients would also work with a therapist for therapy sessions. We have a relationship with several area therapists and can provide referrals to established patients.

  • Are Telehealth appointments available?

Our providers are available for in-person and telehealth consultations.

Online sessions allow you to see a provider from the safety of your home, at a time that is most convenient for you, through our easy scheduling platform.
